The Environment
Count 'em.
This is a big, complicated subject.
(4/12/08) I just had a conversation with two young and motivated canvassers from the League of Conservation Voters, and I need to put something on this page, which I think I may have put off doing in part because the subject involves the production and use of energy, and I may actually know enough about that to write even more than usual.
A principal concern of the two canvassers was nuclear power, and I share their concern, though not to the point of being inflexibly opposed to nuclear power at my current level of understanding. I tend to think of concern for the environment as being something so obvious it goes without saying, but suffice it to say I am of course concerned about the environment. We only have the one. On the other hand, that people will impact the environment is not a matter of if but degree. It is, as I say, a big, complicated subject, and most members of Congress have a very limited understanding of it. I think that from an electoral perspective the best you can do is vote for the most technically competent and ethical people you can, and hope for the best.
I would write about solar power, wind power, fusion, hybrid cars, peak oil, unrestrained consumption, etc., etc., but I would just get going, and I've put this off into the primary.
(4/23/08) It just occured to me, but how's
this for an ecofriendly candidate- I have a compost pile in my back yard,
I use it for my vegetable garden, here are the scraps-

and not only that but ...

and ...
So yeah, got the eco thing.
