The
IRS

(3/25/08) (Epilogue?) Got a brief from the IRS this morning in opposition to the petition for a writ of execution I filed with the district court three weeks ago, which I suppose resulted in yesterday's check. I haven't read it yet, partly because I already cashed the check and partly because I don't want to spoil the suspense over how they manage to go on for 10 pages (with 4 exhibits) about how they shouldn't be compelled to give me a check that arrived yesterday.
What a way to run a country.
(3/24/08) Arrived from the IRS this morning by FedEx-

It didn't come easy. It took five years, two pro se federal lawsuits, and more than a few court filings, here's the last one.
Inglis's assistant was very nice over the phone, she even made a couple of calls, but she made it clear that Bob was in the legislative branch and there wasn't really anything he could do about the executive and judicial branches. Basically, I got more out of the IRS as a private citizen than Bob could as a US Congressman.
As I've written before, I don't know what one Congressman could do, but when I say go after the IRS I don't mean maybe.
And like the above check, you can take that to the bank.
(3/3/08) Got another check this morning from the IRS, this one for $303.18, and per procedure quite unfettered of explanation. Still not the $24,646.56 check rumored somewhere in Washington last January, but more than last month's check for $31.88, which I have yet to return (with 3 cents interest). I just talked to Bob's person April, and about the only thing we have is speculation, and really not even much of that. There is just no telling. The IRS has taken on all the appearance of nothing so much as a randomly failing computer.
Perhaps this is at last what it comes to.
(2/8/08) Got a letter from the IRS this morning demanding I return the $31.88 they sent me for whatever reason Monday. And they want 3 cents interest. Total $31.91. By March 3 to avoid additional penalties and/or interest.
Not making any of this up.
(2/5/08) I need to update this from the last campaign, but suffice it to say the adventure continues. Got a check from the IRS yesterday, $31.88. Don't know what for. A note would have been nice.
I don't recall Bob ever giving a passing faint bleat about the IRS, but if you send me to Washington we won't be talking plaintiff vs. defendant. We'll be talking McCulloch vs. Poulan.
(2006)
I've been locked with the IRS for over three years now trying to get back quite a bit of money they basically stole from me with their dirty accounting. They decided to recalculate my capital gains for 1998 after throwing out the cost basis for all my stock sales, and simple English combined with many letters to many agencies couldn't stop them. Two lawsuits later they've admitted they may have made a "mistake", but the case remains in court and I've yet to recover a dime.
I don't know what one congressman could do, but when I say go after the IRS, I don't mean maybe.
And that's not a promise.
It's a perk.
Here's the latest brief.
addendum:
Here's the one after that.
